"Judas Kiss"

by

John Shirley

Lights up on speaker, sitting in a folding chair, legs crossed in whatever manner he finds most comfortable and natural. His voice is level and sincere; his goal lies in sincerity and not in performance.

Will you let me inside,

Inside of what you feel,

And look me in the eye,

Instead of looking down?

I promise not to laugh.

Will you let me come in,

Be part of what you are,

And tell me what it is

That weakens your resolve?

I promise not to leave.

If you’re feeling something,

Feel free to express it.

If you’re feeling nothing,

Don’t try to repress it.

I promise not to judge.

Just tell me how you feel,

But only if it’s real.

I’m sorry. I can’t bear

Another Judas kiss.

I promise not to cry.

But lying isn’t fair.

The truth begins with this.

I’m sorry. I can’t bear

Another Judas kiss.
