"Dead Man Walking on an Old Man's Grave"
Lyrics By Cory Capron Music by Annalise Lovelace
Performed by Side Effects on 12/19/03

Oh I can't see the sun a-rising
Like it has so many times before
No I can't look at the horizon
I've been stripped of my armor
For all my clever words are used up
Not too much longer I can stay
Oh I have taken more then I deserve
And I can't keep these beasts at bay
I can't keep these beasts at bay

Oh what can I say?
Feel like a dead man walking on an old man's grave
This is not my finest hour
Too much to pay
I'll be a dead man walking till my final day
Till the fiery hounds, devour me

Memories never come like blank checks
And you can only take what still remains
Underneath my soup skin boil these regrets
The ice is cracking in my brain
My fishing shack sinks into the water
And my illusions they all drown
The things I stole can't be recovered
And by the shore I hear a sound
By the shore I hear a sound

Oh what can I say?
Feel like a dead man walking on an old man's grave
This is not my finest hour
Too much to pay
I'll be a dead man walking till my final day
Till the fiery hounds, devour me

For too long Father I have used you
Your name has been my silver shield
Postponing life's hardest lessons
Rubbing the scabs that could have healed
For too long Father I have used you
To sling my troubles all away
Now I must go this path on my own
Still I can't keep these beasts at bay
I can't keep these beasts at bay

Oh what can I say?
Feel like a dead man walking on an old man's grave
This is not my finest hour
And come what may
They'll see a dead man walking till my final day
When the fiery hounds, devour me

CORY'S NOTES:
This was one of the first songs we worked out. I wrote the lyrics for it some time last year and had been holding on to the dead man walking line for years, trying to get it to fit somewhere. Me and Annalise worked it out one day in the coat room at school and when Eric heard it he said that we should just do it without drums. When we heard he couldn't make it the 19th we decided it was good time to play it. For the rechord, Eric Hovermill is still in the band. He just couldn't make it Dec. 19th so we wasn't listed in the band for any of those songs.
