Silver Water (Rock Version)

Lyrics by Cory Capron
Music by "Side Effects"
Performed by "Side Effects" 11/14/03

Smoke in my eyes again
Walking through the barren stems
Thinking of pretty things
That we don't talk about...
Deep in a dream
Where the water's like a curtain
Streaming, fantasies uncertain
And in the darkness there is glee...
And in the darkness there is glee...
And in the darkness there is glee...
Just you and me

Tied up in pictures
And old, poetic scriptures
With my subscription to
The Narcissist Daily...
I scream inside
As the vision falls to pieces
Though I know telekinesis
Will not make you turn around...
Will not make you turn around...
Will not make you turn around...
Leaving me hell bound

(Chorus)
Silver water
Won't-cha carve my heart
Out from this wall of stone
Silver water
Won't you carry me away
From this house of poisoning...
Before I call it home
Baby home sweet home
Baby home sweet home

I've grown, too polluted
All my codes wither diluted
Head protruding through
The clouds of a half-life...
I drift about
From the slums up to The Lawn
Down from Eden to Babylon
Like a rag bound to a stone...
Like a rag bound to a stone...
Like a rag bound to a stone...
But I'm not alone!

(Chorus)

(Bridge)
Cause I'm sitting by the river
And I've nothing left to give her
There's no charms left in my quiver
My tongue is tangled up with yarn...
And the world keeps getting meaner
The new machines ain't any cleaner
I guess the grass is always greener
Till there's a fire in the hay barn...

Smoke in my eyes again
Walking through the barren stems
Thinking of pretty things
That we don't talk about...
And in the darkness there is glee...
And in the darkness there is glee...
And in the darkness there is glee...
And in the darkness there is glee...
And in the darkness there is glee...
All alone and free!

(Chorus)

Before I call it home
Baby home sweet home
Baby homes sweet home
Homes sweet home
Homes sweet home
Homes sweet home
Homes sweet home
Homes sweet home

CORY'S NOTES:
I first wrote this to be a folk song. The first stanza and the chorus came to me while I was sitting on this big rock at Camp Albemarle by the stream, which in the morning light looked like silver. The rest of song came to me when I got back home the next day, which I think was the day before Halloween. Anyway, I brought it in that Tuesday and the next thing I knew it was all loud and electric and very, very different. I really love both versions though, which is why I call this the "Rock Version." Normally I toss the original idea and go with whatever take comes out of collaborating. The only real difference between the Folk and Rock versions lyrically is that the folk one doesn't repeat everything so damn much. : ) The biggest challenge was adapting the chorus. Still not sure if we've figured it out yet. Lot's of fun though. Really loved playing the new space. The Stage setup from "Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead" made us all feel like we were a bunch of 60d's Brit-rockers!
