Genre Pt.I: Horror, Also Known as Comedy

By Arlen Lawson

Who used to pronounce genre as “jen-ree”  354-9374

Two men are on stage.  One is Arlen.  The other?  Who knows?  The other stands rigid, determined.

Arlen:  (speaking to audience) You might not know it to look at him, but this man has nerves of solid steel.  Which is why he can’t move.  He’s trapped in place by his nervous system, which is made entirely out of steel.

Other:  (Through closed mouth) Help me.

Arlen:  You can’t talk.

Lights Down.

AUTHOR'S NOTES:
I am not done with the Genre pieces. I will do some more next semester.  This is just a throwaway joke, really. I've made numerous attempts at horror and comedy monologues in the past, and probably all these pieces will include elements of horror and comedy. I didn't feel the need to put a lot of work into this installment. Also I was going through a period where it was hard for me to write anything at all.

"Genre Pt.I: Horror, Also Known as Comedy" debuted March 23, 2001, performed by Neil Campbell and Arlen Lawson.
