No Time For Explanation 6

by Jeff Goode

(LIGHTS UP ON: BARE STAGE.)

(JERRY sneaks in, trying to get away.)

Frank: (off) Jerry!!

(Jerry tries to run, but doesn’t know where to go.)

(FRANK dashes in from the house with something clasped tightly in his hands.)

Frank: Jerry, I got one! I got one, Jerry, I got one!

(Frank offers his tightly clasped hands to Jerry.)

Frank: Please don’t kill me, Jerry! Please! I’m begging you, Jerry! I got one, please, don’t kill me. (starts to cry)

Jerry: I’m not going to kill you.

Frank: You’re not?

Jerry: No?

Frank: (throwing his hands in the air) Yes!! Oh, thank you, Jerry! You won’t regret this! Yes! I’m gonna live!! Yes! Yes!! (realizing he let "it" go) No! Oh no! Where’d it go?

(He claps his hands together a couple times: Nothing.)

Frank: Oh, no. No, no, no…

Jerry: What’s wrong?

Frank: (quickly) Nothing.

Jerry: You seem very upset about something.

Frank: It got away! Please don’t kill me, Jerry! I couldn’t help it! It was too quick for me. Please don’t kill me!

Jerry: I’m not going to kill you.

Frank: Really?

Jerry: I promise.

Frank: Yes! Yes!! (then) Wait a minute. Why not? I just let it get away. It’s out there now, and it’s all my fault. And you don’t care? You should kill me, Jerry. I deserve it! I don’t deserve to live!!

Jerry: (Beat.) I think you’re confusing me with the other Jerry.

Frank: (Beat.) There’s another Jerry?!?

(BLACKOUT)
