VAPOUR by Jeff Goode

One, Two and Three.

ONE

Have you done anything you wish you hadn't?

TWO

No.

THREE

I once stole. Something. From someone. I think. Maybe I didn't.

ONE

Have you done anything you regret. That you wish you hadn't done?

TWO

No.

THREE

I lied once. To someone. Yes. I'm sure I did that. Why would I make something like that up?

ONE

Have you ever done anything, ever, that you shouldn't have? That you wish you hadn't?

TWO

Never.

THREE

Does this count? I was walking along the viaduct. On Christmas day. With a can of gasoline in one hand. And a baseball cap in the other. Seattle Mariners. And I came across a bum. A homeless person. Bum. Lying by the side of the road. Leaned up on his elbow. And I asked if he wanted something for his head. I think those were my exact words. Would you like something to cover your head? And when he said, Yeah. Yes, he would. I poured the gasoline all over him. Dumped it right on his head. But I didn't light it.

ONE

Have you ever done something--

TWO

I lit a match.

Pause.

TWO (cont'd)

But what was he doing sitting by the viaduct covered with gasoline?
