The Dragon
A song written and performed by Cory Capron, March 21st 2003

A lot of people mistreat others
A lot of people mistreat themselves
I saw it in the mirrors
On the ornamental shelves
I've been poisoning my body
I've been auctioning my soul
Wake up every morning feel' a little less in control

This feeling, it's a dark one
And it's a-swallowing me whole
I need somebody to talk to
Someone who can console
These are dismal days we're seeing
These are bloody days we hold
In the palm of our hands as we ramble on down our roads

Singing Lord, somebody take a-hold of me
Lord, somebody take a-hold of me...
I've been sheltered and drained, grounded for the storm
But oh what a day to be reborn
I said Lord somebody take a-hold of me

Bad people tend to mean well
They try to do what they think 's right
They try to con the devil
When they only block the light
You can slaughter all his minions
You can free the great kingdom
But when you finally kill the dragon it's the dragon you become

I say Lord, somebody take a-hold of me
Lord, somebody take a-hold of me...
I've been a-trembling dizzy, all my humanity's worn
And my heart it feels oh so torn
I said Lord, somebody take a-hold of me

I'm drifting on a bunk bed
Down a stream of aimless thoughts
Been trying hard not to think about
The things I wish I'd forgot
Quit thinking 'bout the children, they say
Quit thinking 'bout the bombs
Just take another Prozac so that you don't have these qualms

And all my friends are steppingstones
They tend to stone me on my path
And I'm trying hard
I'm trying hard
To face myself and all these reflections...
Yeah I'm, trying to find my better half

Well I'm a-standing nearsighted at the edge of the street
Trying to see what's cutting through the desert heat
Spitting on the posters that say "WE WANT YOU"
Running all directions not sure what to do
They say "kids where you going with this anti-war?
You're all stoners and loners and consumer whores
Always bitching 'bout the government whenever you're bored
Just a-playing your bongos and shaking' you're gourds
Singing 'not in our name, no more your way
Peace and love are here to stay'
But then you go home and play your video games
With your violence and sex and your sweatshop brand names..."
(Dude, take a breath)
And all the cynics keep preaching to eager listeners
Shooting down the noble efforts of these protesters
But something's coming down the highway through the ribbons of steam
It's a reality check to break up this dream
That war is the answer the troubles of the world
It just a-passes 'em on to our boys and girls
And all of these streams of blood flow into a dead sea
Oh lord-e-lord somebody show us how to see...

Lord, somebody take a-hold of me
Lord, somebody take a-hold of me...
I've been a-trembling dizzy, all my humanity's worn
And my heart it feels oh so torn
I said Lord, somebody take a-hold of me
Lord, somebody take a-hold of me...
I've been sheltered and drained, grounded for the storm
But oh what a day to be reborn
I said Lord, somebody take a-hold of me...
