Windshield copright 2000, Nozebone the Band

I'd like to think the sidewalks
were just made for my feet.
I walk out in the sunshine
and watch the cars in the street.
And I could walk out in this weather
for days at a time.
I can look right through your windshield
at your face as you pass by.
People scowling, people smiling,
people simply driving past,
people talkinh on their cel phones
I sincerely hope they crash.

There's a car going nowhere
caught up in a traffic jam,
but the people inside aren't concerned
they've got plenty on their hands
'cause the woamn in the car
is leaning in her boyfriend's lap.
She's not hindered by propriety
Or by a shoulder strap.

And there's love in her eyes
but she's looking straiht at me.
She's got coffee in her one hand,
and the coffee's making steam.
The steam rises to the windshield
and it turns the clear to cream.

And in that big white circle
on the windshield by her head
I can see what she is thinking
I can read the words she said.

And she said that I am giving all my love to you, with tenderness and rapture. And she meant it for her boyfriend, but she let her love pass on my way, and she said she loved me too.

And the the traffic eased a bit
and the boyfriend drove away.
I thought "Love's great while it lasts, young lady,
but it could not last all day."
Yeah, love's great while it lasts, now baby,
but it could not last all day.
