2002

Ursula will now be doing the list posting, though everyone is encouraged to do list posting a reviews, ala the Iowa City style of message posting. Also Ursula is going to be serving this year as the No Shame Steward for Live Arts.

What the heck is that? Well, I will give a more detailed explanation, or rather, Ursula will when she has been fully briefed, but essentially Live Arts has this really cool system of empowering its volunteers, and similar to the Actors Equity system, when you do volunteer work at Live Arts, and that is anything from swinging a hammer to directing a mainstage show, you earn Ensemble Points. After earning a certain number of Ensemble Points you are eligable for Ensemble membership. The Ensemble are the core base of the volunteers and Live Arts is sort of unique in giving their volunteers a very active role helping to actually run the dang theatre, not just work in it.

The Ensemble have 9 elected officers to sort of guide and protect the ensemble's interests and represent those to the Live Arts staff. These are the Ensemble Committee. The Chair of the EC (currently Clinton Johnston) actually sits on the Board of Directors of Live Arts during their term of office...which is totally cool that a theatre allows its volunteer base to have representation at a level higher than its own Artistic Director, who doesn't sit on the Board of Directors. Wow, Live Arts is the coolest. Anyway, So what is the big deal about membership in the Ensemble? Well, for example, the Lab space at live arts is managed BY THE ENSEMBLE! That's right, Nearly everything in the lab space is initiated, produced, and executed by the volunteers, not the Live Arts staff. No Shame itself was an ensemble initiative, so when no shame says "its your theatre, make it what you want" we really mean it about the lab too.

Each night of participation in no shame, no matter how many pieces you act in, wrote, directed, whatever, is worth one Ensemble Point, and at 19 points you are eligable to request official membeship and begin taking part in Live Arts beyond your Friday Night revels.

Ok, enough of that stuff, if you have the points, or want to start documenting the points by going through the archive, or want to find out more about Ensemble membership you can talk to me or Ursula about it.

Best Of No Shame will now be quarterly. Start making suggestions for the next BEST OF NO SHAME which will be happening in the Lab space on February 28th and March 1st!!!!

    Saturday, July 13th, 2002
Talked to Michelle May and she said the tv spot on No Shame is finished editing and will run at 6:30 on Saturday this week. I can't remember if its on channel 10 or 13, but I think 10.

It's a 16 minute spot she said was so good it feels like only 4 minutes long. Looking forward to it, hope it broadens our audience base by letting people get a peek at what goes on down there in the lab.

No Shame will be among the featured performances at the Live Arts Gala this year on November 2nd 2002. The Gala is the major fundraising event for Live Arts and this year we're making an extra push to facilitate finishing the new building we will be moving into next year.

Tixlets for the event are as follows: Patron Seats: $250/person or $2,500 for a table of 10 Sponsor Seats: $500/person or $5,000 for a table of 10

On the bill for sure are: Clinton Johnston performing "Ristau" Tucker Duncan performing "A Dedication to the Man of the Lower East Side" Gregory Hays performing "Homeland Insecurity" and me performing something if I can find a single one of my pieces they feel is appropriate. Any suggestions? (Hint: I was told neither of the BONS pieces would really work. I'm told my pieces tend toward the dark.)
